I think if we do a survey, we will find that this is a very common experience. I believe that lifestyles dictate the types of experiences we have and they are as unique as we are individually. I believe that feelings of disappointment and discouragement will visit each and every one of us.
In reflections of our respective journeys through life, we see our mistakes, which for this conversation will mean decisions we made that produced undesired results. It is so easy to see them now. We say "If only I had made a different choice!" We may even see some rewards, but we focus on the costs and the pain! In our reflection, we do not always see or remember why we made the decision in the first place. We also have to consider that we cannot see what would have happened had we made a different choice, because we would also have a different life; but we cannot know if it would have been better.
It is so easy to beat ourselves up for all those things that you no longer have, and all the things you wished for which are not here. OPEN YOUR EYES!! This is a learning experience! You must believe that you are smart enough to figure some things out, and you have! Getting the most out of life means being courageous! You are extraordinary! We get smart by falling down, getting up, and figuring out what to do next!
So, when you look around at the mess, you must know that you have accomplished some things, and you have done good things, and there are things that make you smile. Remember, change comes and it is not always easy to adjust. It is not easy to step out on Faith because you cannot see what will happen once you have made a move. If you listen to others you may become afraid to change things. You have to know that there is no top and no bottom; you can go higher and you can go lower! You cannot be afraid to fall, because you have to believe that when you fall down, God has given you the power get up!!
